I was working with a student recently on some tongue and jaw release exercises.
When she then went back into singing her song, this lovely fluttery vibrato came through. Since it was unplanned and a little uneven, she noted her immediate desire to control it.
We discussed how this light vibrato is a great sign of tension release which she’d achieved through the exercises and, whilst we were focusing on ease rather than tone or style, it might feel good to let the vibrato come through in its own way for a while.
I thought I'd share this with you all as it's really natural to feel resistant to sound that is unpredictable and inconsistent.
It takes courage to allow something to be untethered and not quite within our conscious control but, as I explained:
I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences too so why not head over to my Insta and add your comments.
Let's get singing!
