Jules is a professionally-trained singer and experienced teacher.
Originally a classical singer, she retrained in contemporary and has spent the last decade performing in numerous function bands.
Jules has been teaching and leading ensembles since an early age. She is also a qualified yoga teacher and incorporates this into her vocal coaching.
She loves guiding singers to become all-round musicians and helping them set their voice free, whether they are professional or just singing for fun.
Jules originally trained as a classical singer and violinist at Birmingham Conservatoire whilst studying for her music degree at the university. Since then she has retrained in contemporary singing - pop, rock, jazz and musical theatre - with some of the best in the business. She is dedicated to ongoing vocal development, both for herself and her students, and in 2022 she completed "Evolve", an advanced vocal coaching course.
Jules first started teaching when she was just 16, with young violin and piano pupils. At university she directed the medical faculty choir. After graduating, she taught privately for a few years and as a peripatetic teacher in local independent schools. She also trained as a yoga teacher and this is something that has influenced her singing teaching, helping to understand the body in a more holistic way. Jules has been teaching singing since 2014, working with both adults and children. In 2022 she started teaching online so she could work with a broader range of singers and, since 2023, she has been coaching 16-18 year olds at two sixth form colleges - Peter Symonds and Barton Peveril.
Jules is a gigging musician with decades of experience on stage as a singer, violinist and piano vocalist. She has been lucky enough to perform in some of the most prestigious venues including The Royal Albert Hall. You may have seen her with jazz trio Upright Gents or with a full band singing rock and pop covers at someone’s wedding. Over the years, Jules has done some amateur musical theatre and dance, and she's even got a few professional acting credits to her name.
Jules started out as an orchestral violinist and choral singer, which formed the foundation of her musicianship, gifted her strong ensemble skills and confidence performing at a high level. In the last 10 years, she has developed her keys playing to become a more versatile and useful performer and because she says she never felt part of the band as 'just a singer'. Jules also plays a little guitar and may share a song or two if the sun is out and you ask nicely!
